Car Deals With a Twist

What’s so good about this car? – Manufacturers are always finding an answer to make their car deal look better than the competition. Their marketing teams do a pretty good job too.

With all their efforts, it’s hard to see standouts.

OnlineLoans takes a look at some extremes that car manufacturers have gone to in their quest to squeeze every car deal.

Quick car deal standouts:
  • Rolls Royce sells a very, very, very luxurious SUV for when two ‘verys’ aren’t enough

  • Subaru’s water spray gives the engine a chilled blast of air

  • Mercedes has you covered if you have dirty headlights and can’t stop

  • Hennessey Goliath 6×6 has ‘goliath’ towing power

  • If you don’t feel like roads, look for rivers and lakes

A good deal for: When luxury cars aren’t luxurious enough

At $760,000 Australian dollars, this car deal may not be for the average millionaire – let alone the average person. The Cullinan Black Badge is a very luxurious SUV built by a very luxurious brand (there’s two ‘verys’ already).

The ‘Black Badge’ part adds another ‘very’ and takes it a step further. It adds extra highlights such as a more powerful engine from the standard ‘very, very’ luxurious Cullinan – a 441kW / 900Nm 6.75-litre twin-turbocharged petrol V12 – up 21kw from the standard version.

The ‘starry night’ headliner is one of the most spectacular features. The ceiling of the Cullinan Black Badge functions as a star-filled night sky using fibre-optic trickery. Look closely as shooting stars will even fly by if you’re lucky.

A good deal for: Engines that need chilled air on demand

The famous WRX water spray isn’t new. It’s been appearing on some high-performance WRX STi models for years. In a nutshell, a nozzle inside the cabin sprays water onto the car’s intercooler, allowing for a cooler engine.

Why would a driver want this? When driven hard, especially in hot weather, a turbo-charged engine like the WRX’s makes a lot of heat. To keep it working at optimal temperatures and avoid damage, the water spray feature can help.

Unique features like these can really make a car deal stand out. You’ll need to keep the reservoir in the boot filled to make sure there’s plenty of ‘chilled air’ available.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Mercedes-Benz E-Class

A good deal for: Drivers who can’t stop to clean headlights

Although not a feature of today’s E-Classes, models of the ’90s were equipped with headlight wipers. Tiny wiper blades fitted to arms on each headlight could operate in a 150-degree arc to clear away mud and dust.

They even had water jets to loosen the toughest debris just like windscreens. Replacing these expensive headlights would not have been much fun.

Despite these luxury sedans not being exactly ‘off-road ready’, the headlight wipers certainly made the E-Class a standout car deal for those who required extra clean lights.

Hennessey Goliath 6×6 Truck

Hennessey Goliath 6x6

A good deal for: Raising the Titanic and taking it home

Hennessey, famous for its Venom supercar, takes a capable Chevy 4X4 truck and elevates its capabilities to another level.

The incredible 6-wheeled off-roader is certainly an unmissable type of car and made more so with its eight-inch lift kit. The Goliath features a supercharged 6.2L V8 capable of towing nearly 11,800kg. What does that kind of weight actually mean? The Hennessey Goliath could (in theory) tow:

  • 1 Black Hawk Helicopter (9,979 kg max)

  • 4 Toyota LandCruiser Saharas (2,750 kg each)

  • 2 African elephants (around 5500 kg each)

  • 159 people (average 74.1 kg each)

The Hennessey Goliath 6×6 is a good car deal for anyone keen on really tough towing.

Amphicar Model 770

Amphicar Model 770

A good deal for: Taking a river to work

The car-boat Amphicar was released in the early 1960s and caught the attention (and imagination) of the masses for one very distinct reason…

The vehicle is able to traverse waterways. The Amphicar is for use both on the road and in water. The underside and body of the car are smooth, sealed steel which allows it to float. At the rear, there are twin propellers.

Integration within the drivetrain allows the Model 770 to be driven in and out of the water at boat ramps and then engage the propellers.
